Have you ever been to Texas and ate at Whataburger? Then you have probably tried their Dr. Pepper shakes, even with all the sugar and carbs! This amazing treat is now available in a low carb shake! You are sure to love this keto Dr. Pepper shake.
When we moved to Texas, we traveled with hubby driving our truck pulling our travel trailer, and I drove our van. The truck wasn’t able to go much above 60 MPH at any given time on the road. Traveling 1500 miles took us 4 days. LOOONG trip, to be sure.
When we got to Texas the first day, I was hot, tired, and hangry. After setting up our trailer, we set out in search of a quick and easy dinner since Shabbat was fast approaching. Our first meal in Texas was Whataburger.
The greasy burger was perfect and just what I needed. However, I did “the stupid” and ordered a Dr. Pepper shake. Yup, I knew the carbs that had to be in there, and how I would feel the next day. I did it anyway and I LOVED it. It was rich and thick, with a chocolatey cherry flavor, and I enjoyed every single sip.
Every time my family gets burgers now they all order this shake. It’s really hard to turn it down, honestly. However, I figured out that I could make my own at home, and have this be a low carb milkshake, too.
Other Beverages To Try
You will love how easy this keto milkshake is to make. This great recipe will give you all the flavors you want, while staying true to your keto diet, and weight loss goals.
What kind of ice cream do I need for this keto Dr. Pepper shake?
Just a couple of years ago, finding keto ice cream meant that you had to consume splenda, as that is all the sweeteners they used. Fortunately, the tide is turning and keto friendly ice creams are popping up all over. Some of my favorite brands to use:
I used Halo Top Vanilla for this recipe, but you can make your shake a chocolate shake by swapping out the ice cream flavors.
Do you love milkshakes? You will love this keto dr. pepper shake, that's a copycat of the famous Whataburger's version! #shakes #milkshake #copycat #keto #lchf #lowcarbCan I really have ice cream on a ketogenic diet?
Only you can really answer that. For some, the occasional treat doesn’t bother them, or throw them out of ketosis. However, pay attention to your macros and what your own body is saying. Any sugar free, or low carb recipes can be an issue for some people.
What kind of soda should I use?
I am a fan of Zevia soda. They have lots of flavors to choose from, and they are sweetened with stevia. Perfect for a sweet treat on the keto diet. Try the Dr. Zevia flavor for this shake, or if you want, mix it up!
Can I make this milkshake recipe dairy free?
Absolutely! You can swap out the prepared ice cream for coconut milk, or almond milk, erythritol, and ice cubes. Add your Dr. Zevia and you are good to go!
Let’s make our keto friendly Dr. Pepper shake!
Ingredients:
- 1 pint vanilla bean Halo Top Ice Cream
- 6 oz. Dr. Zevia Soda
Instructions:
- Allow your Halo Top ice cream to come to room temperature before beginning. This ice cream tends to freeze a little harder than normal ice cream so this helps to allow the ice cream to blend better.
- Add the ice cream and Zevia Soda to a blender and blend for about 2-3 minutes or until well combined and smooth.
- Pour into two glasses and enjoy!
