Light, tasty, and slightly spicy, these keto chocolate donuts are the perfect breakfast treat to keep your goals!
Donuts are one of my weaknesses. It’s a sad fact, honestly. I can barely drive past a Dunkin or Krispy Kreme without the old cravings kicking in. Of course, being on keto means that those kinds of donuts are not on my to eat list.
However, I miss the beautiful, round mounds of tastiness. What’s a keto lifestyle gal to do? Make their own, for sure!
These spicy keto donuts are the perfect treat to kick those cravings to the curb.
These keto donuts are baked, which means they are easy to make and do not require oil to be heated. Easy to mix and pour, they are a great recipe for kids to try their hand at homemade donut making, too.
This recipe makes 24 mini donuts, or 8 regular sized ones. I like the mini donuts as it’s “3 per serving” and you can feel like you are cheating more. However, the regular sized donuts are a great breakfast side dish as well. Each 3 mini or 1 regular serving has 1.5 net carbs. Feel free to indulge a bit if you would like.
Now for the ingredients in these spicy keto donuts recipe.
Almond flour is a great source of low carb protein. It has very little blood sugar impact, making it perfect for the keto diet. (source) It’s also rich in magnesium and Vitamin E and B Vitamins, giving you essential nutrients to help you stay healthy. (source)
Cacao is the purest form of consumable chocolate. It’s raw and less processed than cocoa powder or chocolate bars. Thought to be a high source of antioxidents, it also has loads of magnesium. It contains more fiber than cocoa powder and more of the nutrients from the bean are intact.
Cacao is an excellent source of fats, vitamins, minerals and fiber. (source) Using cacao powder is a better choice nutritionally over cocoa powder, obviously. However, you CAN use cocoa powder if that is all you have.
Other Easy Breakasts To Try
Cayenne pepper helps bring out the flavor in cacao and all forms of chocolate. It gives these keto donuts the spicy kick for full flavor.
Whether you make mini or regular sized donuts is entirely up to you.
I recently received this waffle/donut/cupcake maker as a gift from my hubby. I thought these would be the perfect recipe to try it out. It’s got 3 different plates you can change up to make waffles, cupcakes, donuts, mini pies and more. It only took 3 minutes to bake each batch of mini donuts, and the recipe used up 3 batches. Start to finish, this took less than 15 minutes to have breakfast on the table. Great for those busy mornings, too!
Of course, you can also use regular donut pans, and bake them in your oven. But, truth be told, this donut maker is so choice!
