A quick and easy meal, sandwiches are as down-home as it gets. This keto sandwich bread will fit the bill nicely!
I used to miss sandwiches. I love how easy they are to fix, and now filling they can be. Slap some meat and cheese, with creamy mayo and we are good to go. Don’t like meat or cheese? Peanut butter and jelly to the rescue!
Even kids can fix sandwiches by themselves, at an early age. We would use sandwiches for our “home ec” time. The kids made their own lunch, and I got to get some work done in peace. It was a win-win since they were learning how to “cook” for themselves and I could get some time “off”.
However, regular bread has a lot of carbs. There are brands that can have upwards of 24 grams of carbs per slice! That’s more than a day’s worth of carbs for a lot of people. Since it takes 2 slices to make a traditional sandwich, well, you get the idea.
In order to get our sandwich fix, we are going to need a keto sandwich bread.
You could easily put this sandwich in a lettuce wrap, but the effect isn’t always the same. Sometimes, you just need to get your bread on, amiright?
This keto bread recipe is made with almond flour, eggs, and just a bit of almond milk. The carb count will be far lower than traditional bread made with whole wheat or all purpose flour. You can feel good about eating a sandwich again! Some other ways to keep the carb count down:
- Slice the bread thinner and use 1 slice as 2.
- Fold the bread over and make a “wrap” type sandwich.
- Serve the sandwich open face, using only 1 slice of bread for the sandwich.
If you want a dairy free bread, simply replace the melted butter for coconut oil. Measure as a solid, then melt and add to the recipe.

How to tell when your keto sandwich bread is done.
This bread will not pass the toothpick test. I know, I know, that’s how we all check our baked goods, right? Well, the insides may still be under cooked even if it doesn’t stick to the toothpick. You will want to check for a semi hard crust on the outside by gently tapping it. It may still break, but you want the top to be solid. Also, check to make sure the top isn’t squishy, but hard. If you want to use a thermometer, the temperature should reach 200 degrees F.
You will also want to cool your low carb bread completely in the pan, at least 30 minutes. If you remove it before it’s completely cool, it runs the risk of collapsing.
Grab your almond flour, baking powder, and loaf pan, and get ready to make the perfect low carb bread!
