Breakfast for most of us is a rushed time. Whether you are on the way to work, school, or just running errands for the day, stopping and enjoying that meal isn’t always easy. There are days when all I can get down is a protein bar or shake, and I am off to the races.
Fats, proteins and carbs are all kept in line that way, but what about enjoying our food? Life doesn’t need to be all drudge and work, we have to have some enjoyment out of it, otherwise what’s the point? Amiright?
When you do get a few moments, like 20 minutes to be exact, you should take some time and make these delicious low carb bagels. They are savory and make the perfect vehicle for butter, cream cheese, or as a breakfast sandwich. Onion and sesame flavor will make them easy to pair with soups, salads, and as a dinner bread, too.
This savory low carb bagel recipe will satisfy your taste buds while keeping your keto diet goals!
There are 2 ways you can bake this keto, low carb bagel. You can form the bagels free-handed, which is what I normally do. The benefit to that is less prepping dishes and you can make them the size you want. The drawback of this method is that it’s harder to get them all the same size, and they can bake up flatter. If you choose this method, it’s best to work with wet hands to keep the dough from sticking. Just run them under running water for a second, keeping them wet while you work the bagels.
The second way you can bake these onion sesame bagels is by using a donut pan like this one. Since the recipe makes 8 bagels, add a bit of water to the empty spots before placing in the oven to avoid burning the pan. The benefit to that is that you can make them roughly the same size, and they aren’t as flat as free-handed low carb bagels. The drawback is having an additional pan to wash. If you choose this method, be sure to grease the pan well and add an additional 2-3 minutes baking time.

Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 cups mozzerella cheese
- 2 ounces cream cheese
- 3 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups almond flour
- 1 Tablespoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 Tablespoon sesame seeds
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
- Over a double boiler, melt mozzarella cheese and cream cheese together.
- When melted, stir together and beat in 2 eggs.
- In a separate bowl, add almond flour, onion powder, and salt. Stir to combine.
- Pour flour mixture into cheese/egg mixture and mix well.
- Using wet hands, take a small handful (about the size of an orange) and form into a ball. Flatten and make a hole in the center.
- Lay bagels on parchment lined baking sheet.
- Beat the remaining egg and brush over the bagels.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds over bagels and place in oven. Bake for 12 minutes, until golden brown.
- Remove and allow to cool on the baking sheet.
